Trying to make this experience a good one

February 11, 2010

It is 2:52 in the morning and I am at my computer blogging for my comp II class. I am hoping that this will get easier as time goes on, because right now I feel very uneasy talking about myself and the things that I do. It seems as though my life is not very interesting, and no one would care to know what I am doing throughout my day.

It is very cold here in North Carolina and the snow has finally melted away. I called my friends in New York and they received 14 inches of snow on Wednesday. I long for those days again, when we could go outside and have snowball fights, make snowmen and then go back inside and have hot cocoa. When it snows here everyone stays inside and waits for the snow to melt.

I also miss going into Manhattan and just walking around when it snows or taking a horse and carriage ride around Central Park and watch the people on the street. We use to go to Rockerfeller Center and watch the skaters while we had hot cocoa and kabobs from vendors on the street (I know that sounds disgusting, but it was fun), and just watching the people on the street was fun because you never know what you were going to see. I miss New York this time of year.

Hope everyone has a pleasant day and a wonderful weekend.

  1. Hi Sharon,

I was awake when you posted, but I was watching Netflix movies on my laptop in bed! I love hearing your memories of NY. Heard on the news this morning that D.C. is shut down for the fourth day in a row.

I do have lots of memories of snow and ice in Missouri. And yes,we did get out in it. Here in Florida, if it only warms up to 60 like today, I stay inside and bundle up because I refuse to turn on my heat just because it gets down in the 30s at night. I know it will soon warm up.

Oh no, your memories do not sound disgusting. They sound delightful. For all the cities I have lived in and visited that have horse and carriage rides, I have never spent the money on one. I should do that some day. Last Fall I was in Memphis and Chicago. They both have horse and carriage rides, but my favorite image is of those around Jackson Square in New Orleans.

Hey, I used to skate on the ponds in Missouri when I was in high school. Schools would close when we had copious amounts of snow. I lived 18 miles from my high school and would hike through the snow to meet a friend half-way at a pond where we could skate. Then we raided his parents liquor cabinet! (shame on us).

When I was newly married living in Chicago, my husband and I used to ice skate at the rink at Northwestern University. It was fun. I LOVE people watching. The only good place for people watching here is at the beach.

It is not the weekend yet! Tomorrow I have Zumba class at 11:30 and we are wearing black and red in honor of Valentine's. I know our teacher will take a photo. I will post it in my blog. Then, we have a Zumba benefit Friday night.

Saturday I begin my Red Cross disaster team training and then in the afternoon join others on the beach for "Hands Across the Sand."

  3. I love reading your post. I tells me first off there are people that stay up as late as I do, second reading your post gives me hope I one day will get out of Racine just long enough to see even 1/3 of places other people have seen.
